Alice in wonderland brief:

DESIGN BREIF
For this project I will be working on the subject area of costume design and theatrical hair and makeup, creating a complete theatrical look, based on the Alice in wonderland and through the looking glass books and the film by Lewis Carroll. I really enjoy this subject area and have a strong passion for producing a theatrical look through textiles and makeup.

For research I am going to watch the Disney 1951 version of Alice in wonderland and the Tim burton version, I want to watch both so that I can see the contrast and similarities between the characters and the way the story plays out. Also, I am going to use the visits and trips that we take in class, taking influence from other artists work and the way they work. From reading the Lewis Carroll book, I will be able to gain key details of the characters appearance and personality that aren't mentioned in the films. I hope to see some performances of Alice in Wonderland, in theatre or through live streaming at the cinema, I am looking at other peoples interpretations of the characters that I have seen on Blogger to influence my work. I think this will give me additional information that will help me forward my project. I compile an accurate bibliography, with all the sources I used in my work and I acknowledge all references.

I hope to be producing my headers and ruff from fabric material but also use materials and techniques I have used  in 3D class like mod roc and wire, incorporated in some form in the costume, as structure or for statement. describing the range of media and materials I plan to use. I will produce a diary plan/weekly schedule to see where my ideas are going, this will help me stay on track with my designs and also maintain a steady pace of work. I will also give my self a time scale to work to, making sure I work to my deadlines to insure my final outcome is the best it could of been, doing this will also ensure that I can look back on what I have already done, any mistakes I have made and how I corrected them. I will be looking at the work of Colleen Atwood, she produced the costumes for Tim Burtons version of Alice in wonderland, and a lot of other films where the costumes take centre stage, videos online will help me get an understanding of how she worked, what materials she used and why she chose that material for certain costumes, its durability and purpose.

The way I hope to evaluate my work will be by asking others about it, taking constructive criticism about my work to help better it, I will also find a way of publishing my work online and asking people I don't know about my work, this is critical as If not I will only have my own input and sometimes having advice given about your work can be the best way to further it. Evaluating my work on a regular basis will help me maintain an idea of my head of what I need to do next, and where I need to go next with my design.
