Bus station wall art

We got given an extension of work to do for the bus station, there is a wall that Robert would like to fill
this area is a 3x10m space to fill, we thought long and hard about what to put up here, we experimented with the shapes sizes and lay outs of our art work

we worked as a class to decide the arrangement of the artwork.

Three final designs for the bus station windows.

After all the research we have done into the bus station and the design work we have done, here are my three finalised designs that I have sent off.

This is based on robin hood, somewhat of an attraction in Nottingham, the story runs back hundreds of years, I thought this would be appropriate for a design to go in the bus station, as I think every one who sees would relate to it and understand it it, people of all ages.

This was inspired from the art deco research we carried out...

we came together as a class and all contributed pieces of work, the buildings design is based on bauhous and the art deco movement, we looked at furniture, clocks and architecture, coming together as a group to pool all our work together really helped us as we had come to a stand still in our design work. this really helped us bounce ideas off each other and come up with fresh new designs.

This was largely based on the windmills in worksop, they are commonly known and can be very easily recognised, i felt like this was a really strong piece of design work because its easy to look a, its not to harsh on the eye because of its simplicity.

Bus station Visit

We took a visit to the bus station to see the building, it is in week 29 of its 46 week production. Although it is not yet complete for another 17 weeks, it was a valuable experience, to actually see where our work will be up once built. we got showed the solar panels on the roof, Robert the architect, showed us the plans for the floor tiles and where our work would be placed on the windows.

Drawings of my character TOAD

These are some quick illustrations of my character, I used ink on paper to create this one, I really like the effect it creates, I did this illustration after the Sew What show, these are the characters clothes that I dressed him in.

Character analysis- TOAD

Toad is a wealthy character that lives in and owns Toad Hall, he is known to be the most magnificent resident in the book. He's easily addicted to fads and immediately becomes uninterested in them when something new comes along. He starts one trip obsessed with travelling in a gypsy caravan and then soon later becomes addicted to an automobile. This is Toad's downfall. Although he is very kind hearted and loves his friends, his obsessions bring him into all sorts of trouble. With the automobile fad its the ultimate downfall as it ends him up in prison which in turn causes pain for his friends as they have to then put up with the obnoxious behaviour from other animals for being friends with him. The creativeness of his character really shines through when he plots his escape from prison. When he escapes from prison as the washerwoman I think that he finally realises the problems with his obsessive behaviour. So even though he's been through a lot to get to the stage he finally matures and does right by his friends. All four friends team up to save Toad Hall and from there onwards Toad rights his wrongs and changes himself for the better, later becoming a respectable aristocrat.

MARDI GRAS HEADS 2010

Mardi Gras research

Our class have been given a character to look at in detail, from the Kenneth Grahame Story The Wind In The Willows, I have looked into the festival of mardi gras, the heads they create for the festivals are very similar to the ones we are creating for our wind in the willows task.

I think they are a brilliant structure and a great peace of art, but personally I find them really unsettling and a bit creepy!
