Character analysis- TOAD
Toad is a wealthy character that lives in and owns Toad Hall, he is known to be the most magnificent resident in the book. He's easily addicted to fads and immediately becomes uninterested in them when something new comes along. He starts one trip obsessed with travelling in a gypsy caravan and then soon later becomes addicted to an automobile. This is Toad's downfall. Although he is very kind hearted and loves his friends, his obsessions bring him into all sorts of trouble. With the automobile fad its the ultimate downfall as it ends him up in prison which in turn causes pain for his friends as they have to then put up with the obnoxious behaviour from other animals for being friends with him. The creativeness of his character really shines through when he plots his escape from prison. When he escapes from prison as the washerwoman I think that he finally realises the problems with his obsessive behaviour. So even though he's been through a lot to get to the stage he finally matures and does right by his friends. All four friends team up to save Toad Hall and from there onwards Toad rights his wrongs and changes himself for the better, later becoming a respectable aristocrat.
